Happy new year to you all.

We are kicking off the new year at the club with a series on HF antennas.

We will be covering the basics of Dipole construction, matching, traps and tuners over the next few weeks.

A wee bit of theory and a lot of practical building as well.

If people are interested in verticals, then we can cover that too. I am currently putting together a Vertical Whip for 10m as well as a full wave loop for 10m.

Peter ZL4LV is starting tonight with a talk on HF antenna fact and fiction. (not sure if that’s exactly what it’s called but it is in the same vain)

We will be constructing Baluns, Traps and tuners over the next few weeks. It would be a good opportunity to raid junk boxes for Capacitors and those roller inductor things Arch ZL4CF use to make. You maybe able to turn some of that “junk” into $$$$.

Many people have shown interest in this sort of idea and many have said it is long over due. Since the deletion of the CW requirement we have many members now interested in getting on HF. Some of which have had gear sitting around for many many years waiting for the rules to change.

I think also it would be a good idea to run small session of HF operating procedure and HF radio tuning etc. Nothing too over the top, but just a bit of hands on practical operating. Any thoughts you all have on these ideas would be welcome.

Hope to see many of you there tonight.

Those from other Branches are also welcome.
